So I added my gmail account to hub, set the sync messages from to forever and sync frequency to 5 minutes.
If I choose a random message while offline it says to go online to view the message.
Am I missing something?

What do you mean you choose a message while offline? The hub does sync my all my email accounts just fine.
Go into airplane mode and choose a random message that's never been tapped on the device before... It doesn't look like hub actually syncs the message, just the subject / to / from etc.
