I noticed that BlackBerry Android is automatically backing everything up to Google Drive. How secure is that? Are there more-secure/private backup alternatives that back up locally over wi-fi?

Google Drive IS secure and private.

Okay, I remember reading that WhatsApp does not encrypt its Google Drive backups. Is the Android Backup different?

From what I understand, your data on Google Drive is not encrypted with a key that the user controls. It is encrypted locally, but Google controls it, and could therefore access the data if they so choose.

This is evident by the fact that you can do a password reset if you forget your original password.

In the past, Google was a provider for NSA collection (probably still are).

I wouldn't trust my data on any cloud if it isn't encrypted with a password and key only I have control of.

It's not secure or private from Google's eyes.
They don't have any of those "not even we can access your data if we wanted to" like some chat companies are doing.

No. That only officially applies if you are an American in America

I meant from anyone else. If you don't inherently trust Google, then you should not be using any Google products.
