The Motion looks a phone that I would be interested in buying but the phone is too big for me. The Z30 is about the biggest phone that I can use one handed (barely) but for the Motion, I would not be able to do so. I think I'm in the minority about using smaller sized phones, though.

The market seems to have moved on to the 5.2-6" space. It is what it is.

That said, the Motion is only 1/8" wider and 5/8" taller.

We are definitely in the minority. For me the sweet spot is 5" or slightly larger. This size is fairly difficult to find in the sea of 5.5's and above which are so popular right now. I ended up getting a refurbished Huawei P9 and I find it just perfect. I found that GSM arena has a really useful phone finder and comparison tool. You can plug in all your "must have's" with size and weight specifications etc., and come out with a list of possible devices. Basically that is how I found the phone I wanted. I could have had the P10 but I refuse to pay more than $500 for a device. The P9 was a year older but an excellent value IMHO for less than $350 CAD.

As for BBm, who knows, maybe if they stick around long enough, smaller will come back in style. It's not looking good right now, however. I would not wait forever if you need a device check around and use that tool I mentioned. Good luck with your choice in the future!

The Z30 was a great size for me too. I was hoping for the Motion to also be the same size. Hopefully the Motion's grippy back will help in handling the phone one-handed.

Sure, but those phones aren't using those huge bezzels. Market is also moving towards a 18:9 aspect ratio. Both these factors make the device much more user friendly in terms of handling. Motion hasn't either going for it.

Which makes it tougher in an age of edge-to-edge breakage. Bingo.

Absolutely. I am not suggesting they should go for bezzel less design. It would be form over function. They shouldn't do that. But I feel, BBM's target audience will not really care whether the screen is 5.5 or 5.2-5. But a smaller screen with those bezzels would definitely help make the device more manageable in your hand while using.
They should start using 18:9 aspect ration though.

I'm thinking of the Xperia xz1 Compact (what's the deal with model #, Sony?). Its dimensions is similar in size as the Z10 which is ideal for one-handed use for me. But, the Z30 is still running fine, battery life is still good, and it does what I need it to do (most of the time), so I'm not in a hurry to change phones/switch OS.

    DTEK50 is 5.2 and DTEK60 is 5.5.
But chances are like the Motion, screens are only getting bigger.

    I went from Z30 to DTEK50.

I wish they weren't getting so large. It's like carrying a small tablet around. I feel like the Z10 was about the perfect size, maybe a *touch* larger but not much.

Found z10 too small. Z30 was my fave. But dtek50 is only .2 bigger so no real noticeable transition.

For me, the perfect size is and will for the most part be the 9700. it fits nicely in one hand and easily conceals in a pocket.

My phone is strictly for communication, I carry a tablet for surfing and media.

using dtek50 right now but the z30 was the best BlackBerry I have ever had. I cannot understand BlackBerry not upgrading the z30 to the latest hardware and improved battery life like the z30.

Imo, they should come out with a 'Half Motion' sometime soon. Shoul'd've done simultaneously. Yes, there's a market for smaller smartphones, which is why the iPhone SE is such a success.
