I think it is absurd that there are still ads in BBM on BlackBerry android phones.

If we paid for the hardware, then BlackBerry services should be included without ads.

BBM is not controlled by BB anymore at least where ads are concerned. Perhaps suggest to the Indonesian company who has the license that you'd be willing to pay them a $1 a month to make it ad free.

Agreed. And BB branded phones should also include a free license for BBM Enterprise.

But BlackBerry has licenced BBM to another company. That other company has no special relationship to BlackBerry Android customers.

Ads don't bother me nearly as much as the spam invites. At least 2/day

I agree. My wife and I use it extensively, but now I am weaning myself off of it because of all the sponsored ads. If they didn't show up as a chat and give a notification, it wouldn't be so bad. This week while I'm away, we've been using Line. She uses it anyway. I'm using the lite version and it has been great. I think I'm done with BBM.

I think i'd like the option of being able to purchase the ad free subscription for someone else. its hard to ask someone to use it and force the ads on them

Supposedly turning on force question to invite in settings. But that doesn't work either

    Indeed.

And for a free product, one might expect a little advertising.

But I have to agree that the spam, and the TYPE of spam I got on BBM non enterprise was astonishing and sometimes embarrassing.

I'm old enough to remember, very clearly, the Internet without any ads, pay walls, etc. I even remember dial up BBSs--with SysOps (a word my keyboard doesn't even recognize). Now, on my phone, the Internet is almost unusable. Pop up ads, scrolling ads, auto play video, pay walls... this is what happens. It is just exactly like what a drug dealer does. Gets you hooked, then charges you for the privilege. Really, every site or service that establishes a good following and real value is monetized. This is the way of the world and a well established pattern. So it is with BBM, at least under the auspices of its new owner.

I can't resist giving an even more extreme example. CBS All Access is CBS's streaming service. It is insulting to have to watch ads on a paid service. But then the news arrives that for even more money, I can remove the ads. Wow. That's balls.

Not so. My Passport SE can still have BBM video chat with my wife's Z10. All the holy three symbols are there.
