Hello. I was a long time blackberry user, then I moved to Windows phone. Now I'm looking into coming back to blackberry, but how often are the phones updated? And how long will blackberry update the OS? Can I expect the phones to receive OS updates for 2-4 years?

They have only been doing Android for a year now... and really their mobile division has seen a lot of tumoral. Really no clear roadmap of how long the BlackBerry Android's will get updates, or how log the forthcoming TCL BlackBerry Android will. If it's a viable business model.. I would expect two years and be glad to get three.

Security patches are about monthly, varying depending on which phone you have and which carrier you bought it from. Major updates, well, there's no sample size. The Priv came out November 2015, and received Marshmallow April 2016. The DTEK50 (August 2016) and DTEK60 (November 2016) all launched with Marshmallow. The Aurora (March 2017 but only in Indonesia) and the KeyONE (April 2017?) are set to launch with Nougat. After April (hopefully in April) Nougat should come to previous devices.
