    More images there.

Seem more like a Curve device rather than Bold. But I actually quite like the look of it.

This is a curve design right? Makes sense since Q5 will be taking care of the mid range price range though I still think that it could be priced a little bit lower.

It is an upgrade from a 9320 which is clearly what it is intended to replace in the BB range.

It seems to bright to be a led if i look at my 9900 and z10. It really looks like a camera. Let's hope.
Also the camera seems like the same one from the q5. Not the ones that came with previous os7 phones.

This will be a low resource project as most of their devs have moved off of bbos by now, so there is almost zero chance of them adding major functionality such as a ffc and support for it in bbos bbm, that is just going to be the notification led.

Pretty much what I was expecting design wise. I figured they would take ques from the Q5 design and they clearly did.

If it's cheap enough I might pick one up via my one of my favorite importers since this likely won't be released in Canada.

But for this device to make sense it had better be dirt cheap to compete with the likes of Nokia Asha phones and Chinese Android phones that encompass the low end of the market. Otherwise, if this is close in price to the Q5, it will just appear like even BlackBerry doesn't have enough faith in their new Platform not to try and hedge their bets with another BBOS phone.

I don't see a problem with BBOS living on, it is a decent platform for folks who value a great messaging experience, but I really think the earnings call was the wrong time to announce this phone

Give me OS7 + BIS + BB10 HUB and I got me the perfect phone.

This phone looks like crap though. I was expecting higher end with a chrome bezel.

Yikes, that's ugly. I don't understand why they are releasing it. If they want to have a cheap device for older markets, then why not just drop the price of their current Curve phone? Unless this phone offers a new feature the older Curve doesn't, or they cut parts to keep production dirt cheap to maximize profits, I just don't see it. I think they'd be better off liquidating all their OS7 devices to clear inventory. Drop the price of their Curve to $100 or just under a hundred and if someone wants a higher up, then 9900's at say $250 outright.

Guess we'll know more when it officially releases.

    Yup... Freaking ugly.

But I think it will sell.

In Malaysia, Samsung still sells devices using android 2.3 and if I'm not mistaken, they call it android donut or something...
And the differences between jelly bean to donut is akin to bbos4 and bbos7.
But do you see BlackBerry sells bbos4 in the market? No right?

As long as they can still make money, I think BlackBerry will still sell irregardless if it's on OS10 or bbos7 as long as BlackBerry doesn't sell a bbos4 devices. If they did, then they definitely KEEP MOVING backward.

It seems that the more developed infrastructure, the lower the prices for regular data plans.
Definitely 9720 will sell good in the countries where data plans are expensive: after all that was also my concern. Just for the reference: my BIS unlimited data costed ~$3.00/month, and 1GB regular costs me $7.00/month. And we know how ease it is to burn through 1 GB using BB OS10.
I am quite sure that in other countries the difference is much bigger.

I just wish the 9720 looked more 9900-ish, then Curve-ish. Is it an AF-camera, and touch screen?

And as a side thought: OS 7.1.0.1005 on the sample unit. I wonder what will be the final release OS number, but for sure our trustful hybrid builders will have a new baby to play with

I'm not sure I agree. A lot of markets still need data plans like BIS. Who wants to pay per mb in those markets when your idevice or android is gobbling up data like there's no tomorrow?

Even if this device releases, it won't be in the US or Canada. We're talking emerging markets. Which, by the way, BlackBerry excels in. I have confidence in the new BlackBerry personnel. Though quarterly results weren't anything to write home about, they seem to be level headed and knowledgeable about what needs to be done to make BlackBerry more successful.

Do any of you guys have family or friends in these "emerging markets"? If you did then you would know that there are still plenty of people seeking BIS enabled cell phone. Data plans are very expensive in these markets and many of the networks are still in the process of upgrading to higher speeds. Having resource and data heavy phones for simple email, social media, and BBM use is senseless. Paying a low flat rate for these services is much more sensible and feasible for them. Some people still use a phone as a communication device and not necessarily as a media rich entertainment device.

Besides, this makes BlackBerry some well needed money with minimal costs.

I feel that BlackBerry could have at the very least updated the OS a bit. Even just a rejigging of the icons and other graphic changes would be better than rehashing os7.1.

Imagine someone's who has had a curve for the past two years with os7/7.1 buying this and being expected to have os7.1 for another two years. That's a total of 4 years unless they do update it later. That's a big ask.

Surely the poor and the young would enjoy an updated OS just as much as anyone else.

Part of the fun of a new phone is exploring the new features etc, this is just more of the same in new casing.

That said, wouldn't it be funny if this outsold BB10!
