Having owned a Q10 for several months I have become frustrated with the thing. The old operating system with it's trackpad and simple layout and above all the ability to navigate using BUTTONS rather than swiping a touch screen is, in my view so much simpler. If internet browsing or using apps is not your thing then surely this is still the best way to go.

There is nothing wrong in pressing a button rather than swiping a screen. It seems to me that the 9720 is a very good phone. Easy to use and still with a swipe screen if you require that. If the general feel of the build was equivalent to the Q10 or even the old Bold 9780 then for me it would be hands-down winner.

Touch screen phones have certain obvious disadvantages... they require the use of two hands to answer the phone and often go off on a tangent when one accidentally touches the screen. True that web browsing is easier but isn't the main idea of a phone to be able to TALK to people? Nice to have the extras of course but key functions like talk and text need to be simple and quick to use.

My first Q10 was faulty and unusable...the second one does strange things like for example, re-booting itself randomly and dropping email accounts for no reason I can fathom. It looks pretty and has a good keyboard but no call buttons. I've had enough... it may be true that I was around when dinosaurs roamed the earth... but to me... there is no sense in this current obsession. I suspect that there are quite a few folks out there who might agree... always happy to listen to your views whichever way you feel about this.

You may find that the build quality on the 9720 is not the same as the 97xx series. A longtime member of this community recently got a 9720 for similar reasons to the ones you have and he wasn't very happy.

Handle the device and really give it a good study before purchasing it.

I have the 9720, the keyboard and battery are way better than the 9900 IMHO but the damn thing is slow as hell. Tried both OSes: 7.1.0.1046 and 7.1.0.1083 same ****

There is no perfect phone at the moment

Q10 = best camera with auto focus, fast as hell
9900 - fast, OS7, trackpad, menu keys, crappy battery, crappy fixed focus camera, good keyboard
9720 - slow as ****, OS 7.1, trackpad, menu keys, great battery, crappy fixed focus camera, awesome keyboard

I was going to go for a BB Q5 but without the trackpad was imposible for me. I decided for the the 9720 and is a little slow also the touch screen some time is driving me crazy....................Bottonline, I am very happy :-)

If you can live without a track pad I'd say the Q10. Bb10 has much more room to grow than the legacy BlackBerry os. I don't know how much price will factor into your decision, but the Q10 is going to be more future proof
