When it's not lit my trackball scrolls but when I press it, it does not perform the enter function. If I put my finger over the light sensor, the trackball lights up and the enter function works fine. As soon as the trackball light goes out, it stops working as the enter key again. I'm fairly certain the escape key also stops working when the track ball is not lit.
If I do a battery pull, the trackball will work when not lit, then reverts to the above behavior.
Well, you have tried the always popular and usually reliable battery pull. Another suggestion is bring it to a service center and see if they can duplicate it and if so have the fix it so if they fubar it they will just replace it.
