I'm thinking about using an unlocked 8820 with Rogers, and I'm trying to find out if the Wi-Fi will work without a Blackberry data plan? I'm new to Blackberries in general so apologies if this is a noob question, any advice re how to use an unlocked 8820 to its full potential would be appreciated!

Yes, the wifi will work. However, you won't get typical BB functions like push email, BBMessenger, or UMA (TMo only and only on the 8320.)

Ah I see, so if I bought an unlocked 8820 and just bought a voice plan (no data plan), I could still use Wi-Fi hotspots to check email etc.? The reason I ask is that I'm almost always within range of hotspots here in Toronto, and we get raped by Rogers on data.

    Thanks for the info!

If I remember correctly..not many apps are coded to work with the WIFI just yet..most only work with cellular data.
