It might be a BB Messenger waiting for you! Check the BB Messenger
That means that you have a BB messenger request or message waiting for you.

click on the BB messenger icon on the homescreen then scroll down to your message. I had the same question.
hmmmm i have another smiley icon on a 8800 and i'm positive that it's not for bbm. would you happen to know what icon this symbolizes?

I have one on my desktop screen and it has a "1" beside it, but I have no BB Messenger, emails or phone messages.... Beats me!
It's means Push To Talk(PTT) is On.
PTT is a blue circle, not a smiley face. Most likely a BlackBerry Messenger message or friend request.
Did anyone find out how to get rid of this icon?
I had it this morning. Turns out my manager had sent me a request in BB Messenger. I accepted the request and the icon went away.
My wife had this on her phone. The small emoticon style smiley face moved around the screen too. Turned out it was notification of an update to a hangman game app she had downloaded for free from blackberry app world. She accepted the update and now the smiley face has gone

It was a notification from a game I downloaded "Hangman". Once I went to the app on my phone the smiley face went away. Hope this helps.
