Im ready to buy an 8830 right now. Ive found an 8830 from VZW for $65. I want to unlock the MMS and be able to send/receive SMS over 160 characters. What do I need to do? Should I buy an Alltel 8830 for $30 more so I have these features?

    Thank you,
    Frankie

There is a program that you can get called beyond 160 that will let you type as long a text as you want and when you send it the text will get broken up into max 160 character messages.

I may be wrong on this and someone can correct me but now that Verizon owns alltell I think even those phones will be limited because the limits not in the phone, its the network.

Only way to get over 160 characters on a VZW 8830 is to buy beyond160 in the app store. Honestly I would spend the extra cash and get a Tour. 8830 is a great device but is getting dated.

In the case of MMS, the limit is not Verizon's network. My Verizon Tour has MMS. Because the 8830 does not have a camera, Verizon chose not to implement MMS for it. I've not used an AllTel 8830, so I don't know if MMS was ever possible on it, either pre- or post-Verizon takeover.

I dont have the money to get a Tour. I really like the 8830, it has a bigger screen than the 8330 and the keys are bigger. Ive been using WM and I want something different but I would like to have MMS and I need to be able to send large text messages. So I need to buy Beyond 160 to send large messages, no other way around it??

Unfortunately yes, thats the only way around it. Or if you go over 160 it just breaks the message into 2 separate messages. Not that big of a deal imo, if you have unlimited sms or a high plan

What I read is that it will only deliver 160 characters and delete the rest of the message.
