In Options--> Screen/Keyboard there is a Trackball Audible Roll setting. Though, there doesn't seem to be any volume with it. It's either "click" or "mute." I guess you could mute it if its getting on your nerves.
Have you made any dramatic changes to the phone? New OS, or new software, etc. that could have provoked the volumne change?
