First of all, I'm sorry for the quick post and stupid questions. A real noob here just trying to cut down on the nightly 3 hour search for answers about the 8830 (Verison). I read 416 post in the beta 4.5 forum before I came to this page. I have made 2 costly mistakes lately... Vista and Verizon 8830. I have downloaded 8830uAMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel101_PL3.2.0.51_A4.5.0.77.exe and ran the program. I run the Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.6 then connect the phone. The system sync's with the address book. Then Windows detects a problem with the program. If the sync is canceled, the program runs ok. The os 4.5 will not load. I am trying to update the os so that I can use your video program to "fix" the volume issues with the 8830. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Delete the vendor.xml file. It's covered in the FAQ section on how to load up OSs that aren't from your specific carrier. While you're at it, look for the ringtone cod file fix as well in the BETA forum because you'll be missing that file and no default ringtones will be loaded with .77 by default and it'll totally hose your sound Profiles. Are you really sure you want to bite this bullet just yet? It's not for the faint of heart.

I deleted the vendor.xml, loaded os 4.5. Did not know about the ringtone cod file fix. As you stated, I hosed my sound profiles. I've read over 300 post in the beta forum looking for instructions to correct this. Thank you for all your help, and for your knowledge to make a good phone great.

JR's technique has been used successfully by many people over a long period of time. It works. Use Mass Storage Mode to transfer the video. You don't want it to convert.

I did this twice and it still didn't make my ringer louder. This volume problem is so frustrating.

The fix only works with OS4.5. And only if you copy the video to your BlackBerry without conversion. Could that be your problem?

How or where do you get 4.5 os i have spoken with vz and they say 4.2 is the latest which i thought a bit odd as every other bb device has seemingly multiple os's to choose from so why not the 8830?

OS 4.5 hasn't been officially released for the 8830, possibly because the 8830 is nearing the end of its time in the current product line. It is still sold, however. I saw one in a Verizon mall kiosk last night. There are several beta versions of the OS that are unofficially available. If you google OS 4.5 8830, you'll be able to find it.

Obviously since this is your first post, you're new at this. Don't take this as a criticism, but you have to look at the beginning of the thread. The original poster answers your question there. If you've just gotten an 8830, you won't be able to use the fix she outlines because you won't be running the correct OS. You should not attempt to upgrade your OS until you are more familiar with your device.

In the meantime, you can use the Classic Ringtone. That's what I use. It's plenty loud, and the retro ringer sound gets your attention (and everybody else's as well.)

This is a slightly different question...I successfully loaded a number of new ringtones from crackberry. One or two WERE loud enough on the Website but play very softly on the 8830WE; the others I can hear just fine. Is there a way to selectively increase the volume or do I have to select new tones?

You can up the volume on the ringtones using an audio editor program such as audacity. I haven't done it, but it's been discussed as a viable option. That gives you the ability to customize the volume of each ringtone separately, by just boosting the ones that need it.

I tried a lot of ways (Including those on this thread) to no avail. I simply took an MP3 File, tweaked the DBs and saved it as a .wav file. It is MUCH louder and actually gets my attention now.

    Listen for yourself.

    Great forum BTW

Yes. That's noted in bold type in Post #6, just above the attachment. And apparently it doesn't work with the last OS4.5 beta either. See JR's notes in the first posts.

This is an 8830 solution, not an 8330 solution. The 8330 does not have the problem that this solution solves.
