Hey guys s there any way of stopping emails from opening automaticaly?
Automatically? I have never heard of that happening. On my 7250 they don't open until I click them...
What exactly is happening? Is it every time you get an email..or only when you unlock it?
So I receve a email, phone buzzes, I take out of the case, email is on the screen.
I can se that geting expensive so I trying to avoid it from hapening
If you take it out of the holster immediately after the email comes in, it will auto open. I forgot about that. If you wait maybe 30 seconds to a minute after the notification comes in, it won't open by itself.
Why do you say it could get expensive? Are you on a limited data plan? If they are very long emails, they are not downloaded entirely. Emails are rather small, you don't need to worry about them eating up a ton of data. (Unless you are on a 2-3 mb plan.)
4 m plan so just being on the safe side. but that thanks for the help. Im sure I wil have many more question as I just got my BB a few days ago.
Feel free to post any questions you have. Remember, it's always good to try a quick search before posting though. :)
You are not using the network when viewing your email messages on your BlackBerry. You only use bandwidth when sending or receiving. If you just received an email message, the damage is already done. :-)
Wow.. thats a lot of information.. .this site is really good... i am using this site more now....Thanks guys...
I too am new to the Blackberry. I have the 8830 WE and have this issue. I have waited up to 5 minutes to unlock my phone after is has been "holstered" but the email opens automatically. I hope that this is not the end of this string as I am still looking for a setting to stop this from happening. I do not have a limited plan and run off a BES. I just find it annoying that my phone vibrates i look at it and the email opens. Thanks everyone.
i feeel the same way, if there is a fix, i would like to know, this goes as well as sms text.
Somebody pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaasssssee help with this. Its driving me crazy.
Unless there is a software glitch with the 8830...
Bottom line is, on all units, if you receive an email, according to BlackBerry (RIM), you have to wait 15+ seconds BEFORE removing it from the holster to stop it from automatically opening an email...
Unless, with the latest software they have changed it. But, I've not read that anywhere...
Yea guys just wait a bit before rushing to take the BB outta the holster to see wht you got :D

Perhaps some handcuffs to keep you from quick drawing your BlackBerry would fix the problem. :D
I had the same question earlier when I first got my 8830. I learned that if you use a real "holster" instead of the "pouch" it comes with, it will not open emails automatically.

Worth the investment if auto open is an issue. :D
I take it that clip doesn't have the magnet to put the device into standby then.
Exactly. ;)
If you set your profile to "phone only" the messages will not open. The phone will still ring, but will not beep or vibrate when you get a msg. But at least you don't have to deal with the msgs auto-opening

I had a 8700 and 8820 that did this and I actually really enjoyed this feature. Worst case secnario is that if it opens, hit the back button. Everything goes back to normal.
