Hi guys, just wondering if anyone can answer this. I have the Blackberry 8830 World edition through verizon and when i write a text i can only write 160 characters and then have to send that out and start up a new text if i want to continue from the last text. Previous phones i could just write as much as i wanted on 1 page and it automatically seperated it into how every many texts it may be. Is there a way to change the setting? Because i know the curve allows u to do so.

Which OS version is your 8830 running?

On my OS4.2 8800, the SMS screen looks like the following:
    Compose SMS
    160 / 1 of 6
    ------------------
    Person name
    ------------------
    SMS messages....

You may want to check for new options by going to:
    Options -> SMS

    Good luck!

Some services have that installed on their BlackBerries. I know my sprint one has it so I can only write 160 characters. I think that if you upgrade your OS it will make that problem disappear.

Don't think the OS makes a difference. Its limited by VZW not the device.

160 characters is the SMS standard for 7-bit alphabets. That's an ISO/ANSI standard and has nothing to do with any carrier or particular OS version. What may be carrier-dependent are extensions. The 8830 does not implement any SMS extensions, such as 6-160 char blocks. Also, the Verizon 8830 can neither send nor receive MMS messages.

The sending/receiving of MMS IS limited by VZ though.. as the 8800 and 8820 on AT&T can do MMS.

Yes. Verizon doesn't provide MMS on the 8830 because it doesn't have a camera. I'm not familiar with the other 88xx phones.

You can send/receive MMS on the 8800/20.. but it's limited to picture's on the device/card.

The Blackberry's arent the only device that MMS isn't available.. Verizon's Moto Qm, which does have a camera, wont do MMS.

Not sure if the VZ Curve does MMS, but I wouldn't doubt that it doesnt.

Re the Curve, the product lit should say, but until I get internet access on my pc, it's too hard to check. I just moved. Memory problems seem to be associated with the cameras. I'm not sorry my 8830 doesn't have one.
