Ringtone Help (Not about volume)
- Alright, I found one other post that had this problem but I can't find a solution for it. Okay so I've loaded some mp3s onto my phone to use as ringtones. When I play it in the music player it is fine and when the phone is in the holster it rings fine but when it is out of the holster it doesn't ring through the speaker, it rings through the earpiece. (The preloaded ringtones play fine but I don't want to use those.) I can hear it if my ear is next to the receiver but other than that I can't hear it. Is there anyway to fix this?
The other post that refers to this problem was made by BrentR, here is the topic.http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...ications-1623/
naviwilliams suggested a battery pull, I've tried that and it didn't work.Last edited by RabidMonkeyOnCrack; 05-03-08 at 07:47 PM.

The question is simple, my custom ringtones aren't ringing through the speaker, instead they ring through the earpiece (the area where you listen to when you talk on the phone) while preloaded ones are ringing through the speaker. Is there a solution to this?05-04-08 09:38 AMLike 0
- What you are describing is impossible unless the phone was just unstable which of course a battery pull would fix.
What is most likely happening is that the profile choices for out of holster on the currently profile you're using is not set correctly. It could be set to low and it may just sound like it's coming from the earpiece when in fact it's the speaker, but super low. Check the profile. Also, ALWAYS set the ringtone through the Media Player by selecting the file and hitting Menu/Set as Ringtone, unless you're tayloring each individual profile for separate ringtones.05-04-08 09:57 AMLike 0 - No one has replied because no one has likely come across this same issue, including me. I'll be happy to try to piece this solution together for you. Let's start w some basics...
Have you installed any third party software for either media player or ringtones? Caller I'd or any software that overrides the profile settings? Ex: ring on this person, but not this one, etc.
Have you tried calling from another line (several different ones) w the same response. If the number is in your address book vs not in your address book, what happens?
What happens if you set a custom mp3 ringtone for a person (say Mom) and a preloaded ringtone for another (say Wife). What happens when each is called? Switch it, custom for Wife, preloaded for Mom. What happens?
Where are you getting your mp3's from? Using any software on the pc to make them? Are they loaded to the bb from the desktop manager or via mass storage support on the usb cable?
Where are you storing the custom mp3's? On the device memory or on the media card? What have you tried? Do both, tell me what happens.
The general rule for troubleshooting is to try to get the problem to happen every time at will. Then, eliminate the variables until you've narrowed down all the (known) possibilities.
If you'll do the due dilligence, I'll be happy to try to help.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com05-04-08 10:01 AMLike 0 - Alright, I've tried everything you guys mentioned. I know it wasn't a profile problem, I'm not that slow :P. I had the profiles set from low to escalating and I tried calling myself from 3 different numbers. The troubleshooting steps that donpnor posted helped a bit and the results are all the same. I've changed to different MP3s and I guess it is a quality issue like lesmchl1 said. Weird thing is that if I called from a number not in my address book it rings louder or it seems that way at least. I guess I'll just get a program to up the dBs and hope that helps. Thanks for everything.05-04-08 10:27 AMLike 0
- I had no luck with mp3's on my 8830 either. They played fine in the media player and came out the ear piece when set as a ringtone. I posted earlier that I thought I was loosing my hearing. Anyway, now on my new 8330, the mp3 ringtones are very loud. I believe your problem is an 8830 issue and could be fixed with os 4.5. Just my 2cents.05-04-08 10:50 AMLike 0
- RMOC, I'm having the same problem as you are. Really pretty annoying. MP3's sound fine thru media player, but no matter what I do they end up sounding thin/tinny when used as a ringer. I'm not as of yet convinced that it is actually only playing the ringtone thru the earpiece though... I've tried the advice that has been listed above, but no luck. I'm hoping that maybe someone else will throw out an idea that will solve our problem.05-15-08 11:11 AMLike 0
