I've replaced the broken headphone port (3.5mm) on my blackberry Curve with another 3.5mm and I have it down pretty well. Am i missing something or is there some reason why I cant just replace the 2.5mm jack with a 3.5 mm jack. I mean opening the device, breaking the connection with the 2.5 mm one and re-attaching a 3.5 one. mabye some light drilling on the side-rails would be needed, but it should work..... right?!
If you are good with soldering, if that's how it is attached, I'd say you could probably do it. At this point, I don't know which size is actually the normal or standard size. I'd guess that the 8830's smaller one is NON-standard.
Ok, 3.5 is the normal headphone jack as I'm sure you know, like the one on iPods and iPhones. 2.5 is the smaller, non-standard size and requires an annoying adapter just to listen to music.
or use the earphones that come with the 8830... they have the 2.5"
NO earphones came with my 8830 unless after a year they are still tucked somewhere in the packaging.
Just a word of warning... Soldering directly on a circuit board is TOUCHY STUFF! If you're not careful you can tourch the whole berry! And also if you want the headphones with the microphone, then you'l need to find a 3.5 jack that will accommodate that - called a TRS, or Tip Ring Sleeve.
I know you've already done one but I had to at least post a warning in case someone else tries this and trashes their phone!

I ordered a wired blackberry headset for $19.99 today. Would rather do that then use the adapter.

Wired OEM headset w/mic are on the bay for like $6.99 US Shipped... Not the best sounding headset of course, but, not so bad...
He's right. I took my 8100 out of the game for good trying to replace the USB port. I trashed it. I should have kept it to practice braid desoldering and soldering.
