Having read the previous threads, I went to get my new 8830 VZW device and desktop software, and this is the message I read on the download site:
"BlackBerry 4.x software for your handheld device requires an increased amount of storage space than previous versions. As a result of downloading the BlackBerry 4.x software to your handheld device, previous versions of the software will be removed and the remaining available memory generally used for storing email, contacts, calendar, and applications will be significantly reduced."
