hey all i had a question i was wondering why this phone is called a world edition phone? i have a friend thats going to east africa and he needs a phone to use there. i know someone that has an 8820. will that work there since he would need a simcard to use in east africa?
It should, using a local prepaid SIM, or an International roaming plan. And yes, it is a World Edition designed specifically for people that travel to other countries that use different cell frequencies.

8820 is a dedicated phone, and 8830 is a CDMA phone. Verizon and Sprint use the CDMA technology that only 8830 would be able to go on those networks. 8820, I think, is an AT&T phone. So in short, no difference in a foreign country, but it makes a difference in North America.
