    Hi there!

I am a very new blackberry user; I've got an 8820. Here is my problem:

In my address book, I enter the phone number of a contact, lets say his details are Joe BLOGGS phone number 0917 8555 222.

When Joe sent me an SMS message, it does not show his name as the sender, instead it just shows the number but it includes the country code, so the sender of the SMS looks like, +63 917 8555 222.

To fix that, I went ahead and edited Joe's entry in my address book so it shows his number as +63 917 8555 222. When I go back to my SMS message list, sure enough it shows Joe BLOGGS as the sender.

The problem is that, Joe called me and his number appears as 0917 8555 222!!! It doesn't show his name!! aarrrrghhhh!

I used to have a Sony Ericsson and somehow it was intelligent to strip out the leading country code so that both numbers (0917 8555 222 & +63 917 8555 222) both appear as Joe BLOGGS.

I can't believe Blackberry hasn't figured this out and it's just a case I don't know how to ... can anyone please help?

Appreciate it ... this is driving me nuts! (as if I wasn't nuts enough already

You can always put both numbers in the address book entry. Had to do that as we have been changing over email addresses and the server isn't consistent yet on which version it sends out. Annoying. Also, do you have your smart dialing options setup?

Thanks for the suggestions but it would have looked really messy if I had both phone numbers for each contact ...

I spent a bit of time looking around and eventually found the settings!

You basically need to set your correct country code and length of the numbers ...

    ECConception,

Hi was just reading your thread on how to enable your blackberry to show the name as saved in the address book. I'm having the same problem where it shows the number if you call with the country code etc. You mention that you figured out how to solve this bt setting the country code and the number of digits...how did u do this? Pls Help
