I heard that your bb will pick up wirelessly whatever is put on your calendar in outlook. Can that happen is you use comcast.net and not an employers service?

Wireless calendar sync will only happen if you are on BES. Usually, that is an employer hosted service or you can pay a 3rd party host.
From your post, it sounds like you are on Verizon's BIS. All you can do with BIS is have email pushed to your phone.
