Probably nothing major at all... if anything. Upgrading between subversions does not do much

Verizon advertises that their upgrade from 4.2.2.176 to 4.2.2.196 provides support for 8GB microSD cards. I don't have one, so I can't verify that. Since you can use any vendor's OS that matches the device, that should mean that Alltel's 4.2.2.196 would also support 8GB cards.

OS v4.2.2.196 was supposed to address the low ring tone Volume with the 8830, of course everyone knows the answer to that. The current OS will only support 4gb memory card, v4.3 os will support 8gb up to supposingly 16gb.

Subversions usually address small bugs and fixes.

According to the Verizon update website, 4.2.2.196 is supposed to enable 8GB use. I don't have one, so I can't verify it. It would be good if somebody could.
