Hello all.

My girlfriend has the Verizon Wireless 8830 WE. She thinks there is a software update, but she doesn't want the 4.5 beta for her phone. Her version is 4.2.2.148 (Platform 3.0.0.67). Is there a more current version of her OS? If so, where can one get this update?

There is no official version of 4.5 for the 8830 yet.

it's not necessarily an official 4.5 that she wants. We're wondering if there is any version higher than 4.2.2.148 that she can upgrade to.

I have 4.2.2.196 and I'm very happy with it. There is no Docs2Go but I can view word attachments. The email viewer is plain text, but I prefer plain text anyway. I always pick plain text when I subscribe to mailing lists, etc. As for links in email, yes they are ugly but I realy don't mind. For me the biggest down side is no proper support for Mac OS X. If there was an upgrade available that I wanted, I would have to "borrow" a windows machine to install it.

.196 is fine with me also. I tried installing a couple of the beta 4.5s and, for the amount of hassle it was, personally I decided that that improvements weren't worth it. I'll wait until Sprint releases an official version for the 8830; if they don't (as speculation indicates) I'll wait 'till - upgrade to a Storm/Bold/Curve. In the meantime, Empower email viewer and a recently acquired theme from Elecite (yes, they do have a nice one for 4.2 still) will do as a substitute for an OS upgrade
