If I install this on my Verizon 8830, is it going to mess up my service?
I had no problems with my service after installing it on my Verizon 8830, but I would make sure to back up everything and follow the step-by-step OS installation guide if you've never done it before. You shouldn't have to reactivate the phone--I've installed many OS's on this phone and have never had a problem with it.

If you do have issues just call Verizon and give them your ESN and then dial *228 to activate it.

The software does not overwrite any provider settings, so it's safe to use with any 8830 regardless of provider. After installing, just go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader, delete vendor.xml and run Loader.exe. As darkknightuga stated, make sure that everything is backed up before hand.

Can someone please post this to like megashare or something else? I've been trying to download this for like 5 hours now over Cable and T1 but the server from BlackBerry keeps timing out and kicking me out.

    Thanks!

So I recently upgraded to .160 and afterwards, my phone sometimes freezes when receiving calls or text messages. Also, I use the standby feature when placing my phone in the holster and periodically when I try to release standby phone will not respond for 10 sometimes 30 seconds. Any ideas? I tried wiping and going back to .138 and problem remains. Thanks for your help.

I would suspect an application running in the background would be causing your issue. .160 has been good for me.

Sometimes that step takes a long time just leave it be and do something else for awhile until it either finishes or you get an error of some sort.

i went from .160 to .135 and i want to go back to .160, when i downloaded .160 it went through successfully. But even with the vendor file deleted it wont read the .160 update. What can i do to make .160 work on my phone?

Loaded perfect. Make sure you delete the vendor file. Yes, the call timer is back which helps. I'll be monitoring the memory, but mine always seems to drop pretty quick because of weathereye I believe.
    Thanks this helped alot!

I have a os question. I just went to the link for the os update and I found this more current version.
    BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.322 (Multilanguage)
    Package Version: 4.2.2.322
    Consisting of:
    Applications: 4.2.2.176
    Software Platform: 3.0.0.76
    File name: 8830EFS_PBr4.2.2_rel322_PL3.0.0.76_A4.2.2.176_Telu s_Mobility.exe
    File size: 70.18MB

Now, what is the difference between these? If this is a more recent update couldn't I use this on my verizon blackberry? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Make sure your html for email is enabled. Open your email, go to Options>Email Settings and make sure that you select Yes for Enable HTML Email. The upgrade may have turned this off.

I dont have a 8830 yet but I will be buying one soon! I have a couple questions about the hybrid OS deal. Would I just use the same files from the 8830 v138 that the 8330 guys use? I noticed in the 8330 thread there is a .zip file to DL that has the proper files in it to add to 160. Could I use the 8330 files or would I need to use the same version of those files for the 8830?

I just dont want to have any quirks with this new phone lol

If you don't want to have quirks, I would encourage you to leave the OS at 4.2! OS 4.5 definitely has quirks. To me they're tolerable and acceptable for the added features of OS 4.5, but my 8830 is certainly less stable than it was with OS 4.2.2.196. I am running OS 4.5.0.160 from Telus. I haven't used any hybrids.

I have had the opposite experience. With 4.2 from sprint my BB would delete SMS messages and phone logs as it ran out of memory daily. I don't know which version I was running on. With 4.5.0.135 things are pretty stable. I no longer have problems my SMS messages and phone logs. There are still some issues though. The device slows down when memory runs out and there is a slow leak that seems to cause this to happen every 1.5 days under heavy usage. With 4.5.0.160 I had problems with the media player (as detailed in the first post in this thread).
