While down loading the Curve 8320 update I found this one for the 8820 as well.

This download is from Hutchison but will work on ANY carrier's 8820 model BB. (Not 8800 or 8830)

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. (Vista users be sure to right click on the .exe file and select "Run As Adminstrator.")
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Well I just finished upgrading about 10 minutes ago and no problems so far. The upgrade went very smoothly, no issues at all.

File Free is about the same as I was getting with T-Mobile's 4.5.0.139.

No problems making calls on EDGE or UMA.

I'll post again later after I have used this for a while and let you know if I have any problems or memory leaks.

Loaded this yesterday, and so far, so good. Immediately noticed a bit more file free after the re-boot...normally I have about 29MB; after reboot it jumped to 32MB, where it has been holding steady since yesterday without any subsequent re-boots/battery pulls. The OS seems a little snappier too, but I could just be imagining it. All in all, I'm pretty happy with it .

I noticed that my 8820 seems a little faster too, I rarely get the hourglass since upgrading.

This OS also seems to be really excellent for memory stability. I haven't noticed any memory leak at all so far.

I looked, there is 4.5.0.81 version, and the .161, to date 161 is the latest. Too bad, you had me going, thought I'd be upgrading. Hopefully something comes out soon.

I just did the upgrade, but noticed that my SD memory card is not being recognized by XP. Is there something I need to do?

XP got confused with the dive letters. Had to reassign the drive letter. Nevermind.

My BB is showing v4.5.0.52 - is this newer? I dont get a prompt to update when I load Desktop Manager, and i've followed the basic settings in this thread:

I think I might opt for the 8900 instead, no offense, but I do like apps. And I spend most of my days on wi fi so the lack of 3G won't be a big deal for me I guess. If only it comes with "our" kinda keyboard like the Bold.. Oh wait, there's the Tour and the Onyx... Mmmmmm (confused)

Both Orange Belgium Mobistar and O2 UK now have this listing, which is odd because it's a later applications number but an earlier software platform number. Anyone knows if it represents an upgrade?


By the way RIM in its advisory about a browser security issue, View Document says 4.5 application version has to be at least at level 4.5.0.173. If that is really correct, whatever the version below represents, it would seem a newer one is imminent.
