If I don't save anything or do a backup when switching to the new software will all the contacts, phone numbers, etc. go away?
The reason I ask is because I just bought my 8820 a few days ago and yes it was used and full of everything, i.e. crap.
I'd like to purge it all and start fresh.

just did the upgrade and i'm pleased with the results. i was apprehensive to upgrade to the .102 but, since this was an official release, i went ahead and did it. all of my apps and phone numbers were saved however.

I currently have 4.5.0.81 from Rogers. I notice it does not say to delete the vendor.xml file. Is this necessary moving from my current 4.5 OS or not.

    Thanks!

This is a At&t OS and if your with At&t, then no you do not need to delete vendor.xml file. You only need to delete that if the OS is from a different carrier.

Got it downloaded but when I went to load the phone, I got this msg.

    "Error reading setup initialization file."

Do I have to reload the OS again?

Edit: Above should read, "when I went to run the setup" and not load the phone.

I have an unlocked AT&T 8820 that has been running 4.2 for a month or more with no issues.

An upgrade from 4.2 to 4.5.0.110 from the BB AT&T site yesterday failed with a "Fatal error, 1/2 way through the upgrade leaving me with a brick.

After several attempts to resolve(2 more tries, deleting vendor.xml, wipe, upgrading desktop from 4.5 to 4.7, Crying)... I finally had to back off the OS to 4.2 and am back where I was after several hours.

The only thing I noticed out of the ordinary was at pre upgrade I looked at the vendor.xml file and it was blank other then one line with <vendorsrc version="0.0.0.0"></vendorsrc>.

After wiping and reloading 4.2, the vendor.xml file is loaded with all manner of information.

I am A-feared to try doing the upgrade to 4.5.0.110 again for now.

Any ideas of what went wrong ?
Yes, I followed the basic upgrade instructions on here..

I am seeing "error messages" and "fatal" messages in these posts. Has anyone actually loaded this AT&T version without any problems? I am reluctant to upgrade if this release, although official, has issues. I would love to hear success stories.

I took the plunge after reading numerous accounts in AT&T's forum about the new OS. My apprehension was much ado about nothing. The upgrade went flawless and the third party applications that I had were also restored with no issues. I am glad I did it.

I too did the upgrade without issues, but the one thing that I have a problem with is the voice recorder. I can't get it to replay my recordings. Does anyone know how to fix this? I feel that this may be a valuable thing to have. Thanks for any input.

Harry, I did not have the voice not before upgrading, but a program that I used a lot before OS 4.5 was VR+ from Shape Services. I have been very pleased with this program and I will continue to use VR+ in lieu of the one that came with the OS upgrade. Here is a link if you wish to check it out.

mine on 4.5x is playing recording and playing back fine. The recorder interface is much different (better IMO) after the upgrade. Good luck
