    any review??
I noticed a better signal at home, which is normally very poor.. Signal for me improved about 20%. I also noticed less batt drain and a stable file free memory, no noticable leaks.. I tested this for over 24hrs as is from bb.. I then hybrided it with 4.7 files and gained more memory and faster browser.. IMO, the stock .181 is better than 174. For signal and batt life..but a hybrid is even better!!

Upgraded from .174 to .181 and have it running now for about 48 hours.

I didn't notice better performance in signal but my signal (wifi and gprs) in home is very good. No new icons (or maybe I missed something). I do have the feeling that my 8820 is running a little smoother and I notice a better performance of the battery. No memory leaks and no strange reboots.

Does anyone else have an issue with logging into Google Voice?

I can run the app ok, but it won't log into my account. The only change I made to the phone was upgrading from 174->181.

Have tried to load this for two days. I am using Desktop 5.0 with windows Vista Home Deluxe. It downloads OK from the site and appears to load. When I open DM and try to update my 8820 I get nada. I use ATT as a carrier but I would think this would make no difference in upgrading the OS. Any help would be appreciated. Could this have to do with Vista?

    Did you remove the vendor.xml?

Couldn't find where on my computer is was at. This is one of the problems as DM couldn't find it either when I went to install. so I guess NO I did not remove the vendor XML files.

    I think that's what's going wrong.

    Just install the exe.
    Go to C:\\program files\Research in Motion\Apploader
(or something like that, don't have a Windows thing near me at the moment).

Delete de Vendor.xml (or drag it into a folder out of the Apploader folder).
Then click the Loader (same folder as the vendor.xml) and there you go. Sit back, watch a movie or whatever and wait till it's done (can take a long time).

have no such file under that directory or any of the others under Research in Motion. Do not even have the Apploader directory you mention. Messed up right.
I looked on the ATT site and they show only .110 available for installation. As far as I can tell this is an unlocked phone. Have had this problem with 2 different computers.

Download the BlackBerry desktop manager software

DISCONNECT your computer from the internet

    Install desktop manager

Install this software which you should have already downloaded

Search for Vendor.xml just like that and delete it

Hook up your phone and tada

I take it you want me to remove all the currently installed Desktop manager and other software before I do this? I have it on my HDD already. Am I to understand you think it has to do with being connected to the internet?

If you are using desktop manager 5.0 yes it has everything to do with it checking AT&T for the latest software from them over the internet.

Also make sure you downloaded from the second link which is for the 8820 not the 8800.

Instructions to install on ANY 8800/8820 from ANY CARRIER.

    1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

I have checked that I am downloading the 8820 version. will try these solutions tonight and see hwo they work. Didn't think this would be that hard of a problem. Will go to ATT site and download what they have for the DM and go from there. I am still curious why the version 5.0 i loaded didn't have the Apploader directory. Will keep trying

    install DM5

download the propper OS file for your 88XX and install

    Open explorer and go here:

C:\ program files \ COMMON FILES \ research in motion \ app loader
(make sure you go to common files, I had your problem at first. The folder should not be hidden by Windows but you can check if its not showing up)

delete the file vendor.xml and if you are using vista right click on loader.exe and run as administrator.

Finally got my 8820 to the updated software. I had bought a new netbook last week and fresh installed DM 5.0. when it said to connect the BB I did and all of a sudden it was updating not only the DM but also the BB. I now have my BB updated to version .182 and all seems to be working great. Do not know what is going on with the other 2 computers I was trying to use but I think the fact I was using one with no previous RIM software was what did the trick. For those having this problem see if you can use a computer which has never had BB software installed and go from there. Hope this helps
