Actually, both can now handle 16G (at least the VZW ones will), but only if it's HC type. It may take a software upgrade to enable this for older OSs.

I just put 6.8 Gigs of music on mine with some TV shows.

This is most probably because 8GB is incompatable.

Take a look at the Sandisk website there is a support section that outlines what memory cards they supply and what products they are compatable to.

the 8830WE is only compatible up to the 4GB memory card.
The 8830 will hold a 4 gig chip. i have one in mine and I can use the full 4 gig.

It depends on the OS that's on the device what media card it can handle. Here's the limits on media cards with their respective Operating Systems...

BlackBerry Device Software version Media card size limit
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 Up to 2 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0.81 and later Up to 16 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0 and later Up to 32 GB

This is the best price I found on 4GB microSD cards ($39.99) I've used them before to order Tivo stuff and they seem to be honest.
i got my at walmart for under 20 bucks.

I've been running a SanDisk 16GB card for about 4-5 months. $89 at BestBuy. I haven't had any problems with 4.5 and I also upgraded to the new 4.5.160 a few weeks ago. I put a TON of music and videos on it and I still have @10GB left.

I want to put some pictures from my PC on my 8830. Some of them are large files. Based simply on the quality of the 8830 screen, is there a "best" size for importing pictures? I can always resize them down and mail them to myself using gmail. But aside from taking up more room on the micro disk, will I be able to see a 2MB photo better than a 500KB photo?

    Thanks

Looking to find out what the maximum size MicroSD memory card that the 8830 will handle? What's the max anybody here has been able to succesfully use? I've read a few threads of problems with 2gb...
    Thanks in advance! Cheers, PDQ
i have the 8830 WE and just purchased and
formatted two 8gb miroSDHC cards . worked perfect. did have to upgrade to the 4.5 version from the 4.2 .had a 7.4gb
availability after formatting with the readout from tools
under media card. appreciate the speed. class 4. just seems
to run much faster. enabled mass storage and the pc recognized two "blackberries" the onboard card and the card
previously formatted in the pc media reader. dragged and
dropped to transfer data. no problem.

Space is not your problem. i have over 300 photos and wallpaper on my micro SD card and have used 12 mb of memory. music is a different story, 300 songs over 1 GB
but were recorded at a high bit rate, 192. robert

But if you mean is it useable as executable memory versus storage, it is only storage.
