Thanks to this forum, I've used Audacity to make an MP3 loud enough to hear as a ring tone, and loaded it onto my BB, solving one problem with my 8830. Unfortunately, the ring tone, although it is a full song long, only plays for about 4 seconds and then repeats itself. How can I get it to play for a longer time? Or can I? Thanks for your collective experience and wisdom.

Your BB will ring no longer than 30 seconds, as that is the carrier's longest ring available, so anything longer is a waste if size and your time. By default, most carriers limit their ringtime to voicemail to 15 seconds.

    1. Call your carrier and ask to extend the length ring time to voicemail.
    2. Cut your ringtones to 30 seconds or less, and under 512kb.
    3. Set your number of rings in Profiles > Advanced, etc., to ONE ring... setting it for 2 or 3 will make it stop and start over again.

    Good luck.

And some flavors of mp3 still won't work. Here is a great online ringtone conversion site...

Went to Cellsea (cool site...), got the file converted: 1.34MB, WAV file. Transfered it to the BB. Set the # of beeps to 1. Only getting about 6 seconds worth of ringtone.
Also tried the **61*XXXXX, etc trick at BB FAQs (another cool site)- still no go...

If you are on O2 dial the following
*61*901*11* 30(this is the amount of seconds required)#

    You can enter 5 - 30 30 being maximum
P.S. leave out the information in the brackets including the brackets
