I finally broke down and got one. I've been waiting to finish my christmas shopping.
I'm curious if I got a good deal or not.
After tax with free 2nd day shipping from verizon I got it for 162$.
How'd I do? The guy in the verizon store in the mall tried getting me for nearly 400$ for it, so Right there in the store, I called up verizon, talked to a rep, and about 5 minutes later I had one on its way for 240$ cheaper.
The plan I got is 450 minutes(everyone I know has verizon). As it is, at the end of each month, with my current 450 minute plan, I usually have 300-400 minutes left. One month I had 438 left.
The plan also comes with unlimited text messages and e-mail. Total each month is going to be 62$. I'm not sure what added fees will put on there, but I'm guess-timating 75$ total. I get a discount from my work which really helps.

The plan you described sounds like the $99. You receive 37% off your monthly bill? That is one heck of a discount!
I used Sprint a few years ago. I had absolutely no problems with it. I only switched to verizon because the fact that all of my friends, family, and coworkers use it so I can get the cheapest plan and never run out of minutes. With sprint, I was using 900 minutes a month.
