Depending on when you bought it, you may have OS 4.2.2.176 or 4.2.2.196. Or even possibly one of the 4.5 versions if you bought it in the last year. Regardless, you have to have the exe file for the OS you want to install on your 8830. If you don't have it, you may be out of luck. I don't know any source for old OS versions. Assuming you do have it, double click the OS exe file to install it on your PC. Then wipe your phone with JL_Cmdr or CrackMem to remove the OS that's there. After that, run the App Loader to install the version you wish to install.

None of this is trivial to do.

I"m glad you found CrackMem. I never used .135 and don't know a specific source. You might try posting a new question in the 8830 forum. Ask for anyone with the 4.5.0.135 exe file to upload it to rapidshare or megauploader. It's worth a shot. Some guys keep old OS versions on hand for such a need.

The last OS I ran on my 8830 was 4.5.0.169, released by Telus (I think). It fixed a lot of problems that the official Verizon 4.5 version introduced. I think that was 4.5.0.138, but I'm not sure. I replaced my 8830 with a 9630 in July.

CORRECTION: The last OS I ran on my 8830 was 4.5.0.160, released by Telus, not 4.5.0.169 as stated above.

No, you can use any version of DM. If you use a DM later than 4.6, you will have to disconnect your PC from the internet to stop DM from over-writing your changes to the OS. That's documented in the CrackMem help files.

Did you find an OS? I still have 4.5.0.160. I can upload it for you if you want.

I have the os 4.2.2.170 on an old BBerry. I switched back to using it after some recent upgrades made my 8330 run like crap. Always with the hourglass spinning...

How can I upload this OS for someone else to use? Also, How would I save this OS to my laptop to install it on my newer 8330, (my old one has a cracked camera lens, which I really need to use for work).

    Thanks for the help!

You can create a megauploader or rapidshare account if you wish to share the OS, but you have to have the exe file on your PC. There's no way to copy an OS from a BlackBerry back to the PC.
