Hi guys,
new user and in need of help! Tried to backup my phone today and needed to update the software, which subsequently appears to have crashed the handset & given me error 507!!
I've tried following some of the fixes on this and the BB site, but when i get to application loader, it just wont recognise the phone - i dont remember my password (would i have had to set this, or is there a default one??) Must have tried 20 times now, and it doesn't do a factory reset either...

Appreciate any help!

You can always try clearing the whole phone and reloading the OS again.

Google Jl Cmder. That'll definitely do the trick.

or as the post above suggests wipe with JL_Commander or CrackMem and reinstall the software.

I used to use JL_Cmdr to wipe my phone very simple, now I use CrackMem or CrackUtil

Funny thing was that I'm a new BB User and I was there just a couple days ago. lol.

Except I didn't get 507, I just got hardware failure in general. Wouldn't even turn on.

And is CrackMem faster?

Yes, Sunkast's point is a good one as this is what you'll see after you wipe your device. Often alarming to folks while they are in the middle of a wipe and re-install.

CrackMem is faster... but more stuff to think about, more choices to make. So just the figuring it out might take longer.

Thanks to a CB colleague, here is a quick step on CrackMem when doing an upgrade:

CrackMem procedure for upgrades is:
1. Uninstall the older version from the PC
2. Install the newer OS to the PC.
3. Change the theme on the device to carrier default.
4. Run CrackMem, make desired changes, Apply.
5. Close CrackMem.
6. Run Desktop Manager.
7. Plug in BB
8. When prompted to upgrade, click OK
9. Choose "Advanced", so individual OS changes can be made.
10. Begin

During the upgrade, the device is wiped.

Is it possible to wipe the phone without turning it on? I have a shorted BB I need to return to Tmo, but I'd like to wipe my stuff off before I send it. The problem is my phone has not been able to come on for 4 days now! Any suggestions?

If you connect your phone to your computer and it is recognized via USB and/or Desktop Manager then you can... but if it is physically not turning on then it's highly unlikely that your USB handshake is possible.

Blackberry has a great fix for that, that just work for me last night, try out the following

Go to Blackberry.com/507
follow those instructions, if u already have an OS installed on your pc downgrade and then upgrade the os. Note: this takes longer since updating and backing up takes up 1 hr out of your day.
