Had to wipe my Blackberry today!
- I had to wipe my Blackberry today according to AT&T.
I was having some issues with my Blackberry taking about 10-15 minutes to receive e-mail. I would send an email to my Blackberry and it would take about 15 minutes for it to get it. My service had "edge" not "EDGE." Sometimes in only had "GSM."
The rep informed me (by the way this was data support, not just a rep.) That maybe it was a device issue. She stated that there was not any issues with Blackberry. We went round and round with this thing...nothing. Well, lets check this, and lets check that. Nothing. She said "do you have another AT&T phone there with you." I said yes..., so I wound up swapping sims with this phone to that phone, checking this connection to that connection. Nothing...she thought maybe it was the sim card.
"Well", she said. "Is your device backed up?" I thought, oh here we go. (Why is it that a master reset, a device wipe or any other procedure that kills all the information on a phone the only thing that will bring it back to life) Anyway, I backed it up...took about 30 seconds. I informed her my device was backed up. Ok ,we went on our little trip of no return. Went to Settings -> Options -> Security Options -> General Settings ->Wipe handheld
. Point of no return. I pressed the button.
After the wipe...we...meaning me, had to reinstall this stuff. I then asked her, if my device had a problem and I wipe it then reinstall the information... does it not in essence reinstall the problem. She said...uh...n..no, no it should not. I felt reassured by this. I just wiped a device and now she doesn't know if the problem might be reinstalled. Ok, I reinstalled all the stuff... and well, yes the problem too. I was then told that since I purchased my device in November of 2007, that it was under warrany and could be changed out. So if it could not be fixed I would get it swapped out with warrany exchnage. Well, I wound up getting switched over to RIM for tech support.
The first thing out of his mouth was "we have been experiencing slowing issues with emails not getting through, taking extra time than normal... Where was this guy 2 hours ago. Why is it that AT&T cannot inform us of an issue that we must go through **** in a hand basket before we realize...There was never an issue... He said to go to this section of Blackberry -> settings -> options -> advanced options -> host routing table -> and click menu then select register now... TADA! all 1500, emails started showing up (not really 1500) but te 10 service books she (AT&T) sent to my phone came through.
All in all it was made worse by what ever I was told to do by AT&T, because she stopped my service restarted my service...so I went from EDGE to edge and back to EDGE then back to edge. If I could have talked to RIM right off, I would have never went through all this. I would have been told that Blackberry is having an issue, give it about an hour. But it finally got done... I was a little frustrated but...next time....don't know.
What do you all think? Suffer and wait, or would you call again?Last edited by msbluelline; 03-09-08 at 11:16 PM.

Sorry, if it's not one thing, it's another.
Every time I try to send a reply my computer locked up. I was trying to say I fixed it...I found that "enter key" that I was looking at.

Like what was mentioned above... I will try to do everything on my own...well not on my own, but with the help of this Blackberry family. It appears that this site knows more than any "tech rep".

I appreciate your lil jokes....gave me a smile

If you did notice, i did not forget the "enter" this time...lol

I opened the menu's scrolled through looking for an enter button. I am thinking, "what in the He!! is he talking bout" what enter button....
Then...... it came too me....after I sent the message... had to laugh though.

Congrats Sunkast on making me laugh...
