I was wondering since the bb 8830 world edition is capable of both cdma and gsm technologies, can you only use the gsm part of the phone while outside of the US?

Lets say that I am traveling in the US and I don't get any type or service off of the cdma network, can I then pop in the sim card and run off of a gsm tower (granted there is actual gsm coverage in that area)?

When I asked the Verizon rep. this he replied with "there is no gsm in the US"

Now I'm not pssitive, but I'm almost positive that this guy doesn't know what he is talking about.

Could anyone clear this up for me?

    Thank You!

In answer to your first question. By what I understand, yes, you can.

As for using the GSM feature while in the US, that am not 100% on. But, you and I know we have GSM all over the US, so, obviously the rep is a 'poor rep, and really needs to study his/her trade' more...

You cannot use it as a GSM phone in the US. Wrong frequencies. US GSM is different than European GSM. The 8830 will use CDMA in the US and GSM in Europe.
