    Can the 8830 only take a micro sd card or is that other slot next to it for a different type of card?

    The other slot is for a SIM card, giving you phone capabilities outside North America.

    If you go to France, as an example, you could put a SIM card in the phone and it would work over there.

    What's the best way to transfer files and programs etc to m� memory card to free up the bb space

    there is one program to transfer apps but it sucks. i tried it... twice. Put your pictures, ringtones, and mp3s on a media card. That's the best you can do.
