I've got an 8800 that lived its past life on a BES server. It even says on the box "BlackBerry 8800 Enterprise".

So, when I go to the e-mail set up options, I only have the "I want to use a work email account with a Blackberry Enterprise Server" option.

Anyway - I have set it up with a pay as you go data tariff with Vodafone UK now. Sure, it works as a phone etc - but no e-mail and no internet (as you'd expect).

Vodafone have just sent me a text that says I can call 40035 to opt in to Blackberry Internet Service. (I guess they know from the IMEI on the network that their SIM card has gone into a Blackberry?).

If I go into Options >> Advanced Options >> Applications >> Email Setup Application 4.5.0 it says:

"Description: Application for setting up Blackberry Internet Service email".

If I look at the modules there, the net_rim_bis modules seem to be in place for BIS.

Funny thing is, I upgraded the OS to 4.5 then downgraded it to 4.2 - but for some reason it left behind Email Setup Application 4.5.0 when I downgraded the OS.

Is that likely to cause any problems?

If I opt in to BIS with my carrier, will the option to set up e-mail for BIS magically appear in my e-mail set up options once I opt in to BIS and then go to the BIS setup webpage for Vodafone UK and create a new account?:

Does BIS option appear on handheld after...-screen-shot-2012-10-27-20.53.36.png

Or - is it a case of, once a BES handset, always a BES handset?

I don't want to opt in for 5 a month and find it doesn't work!

You need to have the BlackBerry Tariff (BIS) in order to get the Personal Email Setup option.

So, I assume you mean that once you sign up for BIS, the BIS option appears on the handheld?

How does the handset know that it should now give you the option to go through BIS e-mail set up?

    Just curious!

You MUST get the BlackBerry BIS tariff.

Also I'd suggest you find that link on BlackBerry.com to remove the I.T. policy...

Thanks for all your help guys - I opted into BIS and within 3 minutes, the BIS option appeared on the 8800. Set up e-mail. Works brilliantly!

I guess the carrier must send something to the phone to activate BIS.

Just had to change the APN for my carrier's settings for the browser and that works too.

    Very happy camper!

    Thanks again!
