This seems like such a basic question -
I bought and returned a 8830 because we couldn't get a stereo headset to work while in the store.
Basically, using 2 different wired stereo headsets (one is Jabra), only the right side (single side) produce the sound.
The store personnel said this is how the 8830 works, presumably for safety.
I am having a similar problem with my pearl. With the plug all the way in the right side plays. Back it out a bit and the left side plays. Seems like a bad jack to me

The 8830 does stereo for wired headsets. The headset you had just wasn't designed for the jack on the 8830. I've a headset that comes with a Pearl and it worked fine on the 8830.
I've tried the standard iPod headphones as well as headphones from UltimateEars. Both don't come in stereo.... though, I'm using the Palm Treo 650 headset adapter (I'm a recent convert from the Treo). I wonder if that is the problem? I would have thought that a stereo adapter is the same regardless, as I'm simply going from a one "pin" size to another.
I'm assuming I need to get a NEW adapter, such as the Seidio that is listed on this site?
It's the adaptor, not the phone or headphones. Simple as that. Blackberries are built by the same "mental state" people that build MACs it seems. They always have to do things the hard way and not comform with "standard practices". Go figure.
While on vacation I purchased a headset at BestBuy that worked great in stereo with my 8830. I purchased the Body Glove Earglove Sport Stereo Headset for Cellular Phones with Universal 2.5mm Jack
