I need help please... I have over 100 contacts and for some odd reason i noticed today that out of the blue all the contacts got mixed up. Company names, address and phone numbers of one contact got swapped with anothers and now I have no way of knowing which phone number belongs to who. It seems like every single one is mixed up. Is this something that can be fixed?? I had not done a sync for some time now so my PC contacts were not updated either. This is the first time I am posting here so please let me know if I am doing anything wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When things on the BB are not as expected, the suggestion is to pull the battery out while the phone is ON. Leave it out for 30 or so seconds and replace. See if that clears up the problem.

Obvious close the barn door after.... do more frequent syncs with Outlook or backup your data.

Plug in your BB to your PC (make sure it doesn't try and sync). Go into DM and Backup. Do a backup of the BB just in case. Then go to Advanced and look at your databases on the handheld on the right of the screen. Select the Address Book and clear it. Then just resync your info back to it.

If you are on BES, take this up with your BB Admin first. Could be a goof on his/her end. Just make sure your contacts are not messed up at their source first... as that will obviously cause them to be messed up on your BB.

what cellphone did you had before the bb?

if it was a non smartphone , some cellphone do not have all the field in the contact info.

So if you had let s say, a basic phone like the sony ericson 650 for example , it doenst have all the filed in the contact info in the same way than a smartphone. (eg: business phone# in the se650 will be the home phone # in the bb or you can get error just because the field doens t exist either way)

so if you synced your SE650 with outlook and then with your will sync outlook with BB, then it will mixed it up ...

That s why i will always recomand to do everything via outlook and set your siync by default from outlook to device always

Then that means you sync'd with your PC and now the contacts are fubar. Only hope of fixing this is if you have an older bckup of the BB contents on your PC. If you do, you can restore the contacts from that and push them all to your PC (Outlook) to correct that as well.

You never said what type of setup you have either. How about you tell us what and where the contacts are corrupted. On the phone and PC, you don't have them sync'd to your PC, what... etc. We can't read your mind with the cryptic "That didn't work".

Everyone thanx for your help.. I was able to find an older back up of my outlook contacts and reload it however, after a few hours the problem reoccured on the bb. Verizon Wireless and RIM support confirmed that the problem was device related and are now sending me a new device.

Sorry to dig up an old thread from the grave but I'm having the same problems. I sync my Windows Mobile device to my work PC and then with Outlook at home. Then I sync my Blackberry at home as well. I have to do this as my work only has ActiveSync support.

Anyways I have noticed lately that the 'Display As' email address is different than the actual email. It's taking to 'Display As' from a completely different contact. I found a couple of these and didn't think much of it, but then I ended up emailing the wrong person and couldn't figure out how it happened. When I checked my sent items it shows as going to the correct recipients, but when the recipients replied it looked completely different. I then realized that there are a lot of contacts that this happened to. I'm a little scared because I have almost 400 and it would be a big nuisance to have to go through each one. Outlook already changed the display name formar from 'First Last' to 'Last, First' without my permission, I don't need to add yet another problem to my list. Has anyone ever seen this before?

My home PC is running Outlook 2007 on Visa and my work PC is running Outlook 2003 on XP.

I am having the same problem, and it started when I upgraded to v5.0.0.509. Also, when I go to sync with Outlook, it won't let me because it says I am now synching with g-mail.

before I figure out how to reverse the damage, I'll have to figure out where to switch off the sync with g-mail -- but I don't know how!

All bright ideas gratefully received -- at this stage I'll try anything!

Nope I tried to manually clean some up, but it's tough to spot them. It's embarrassing when you email the wrong person as a result.

    FIXED!
Mine wasn't fixed using the method above, tried but it didn't work. Also tried address book / options / RSET, wiped address book and the only thing that remained were the corrupted contacts, DARN!
I deleted the one corrupt contact i had in Outlook.
copied my contacts folder in Outlook to my Inbox, so I had a backup.
did a WIPE on the bb, removed, emails/contacts, etc...
I choose not to remove my apps, had to go through and accept all the license agreements though, somewhat time consuming, as well as moving your icons around if you do that like I did.

Then restored a backup via DM (Desktop Manager), did selective data. Restored everything except for address book.
Went to do a sync and it turns out the corrupt entry was also in another list, so I canceled and deleted it there also.
Keep an eye on the details.
Went to do another sync, entry was not listed as an Add
This added all my contacts, except for my corrupt one which was deleted.
    Did a new backup.
Deleted all my old backups. Do this step at your own peril.
looks like it is working fine. Additionally, I had some connector specific error with my tasks, that error is also gone now.
Looks like everything is working fine.
Total time, probably a little over 60 minutes between all the reboots, wipe and all.
    Enjoy
    Good luck.
Just a note, but I don't keep every email on my bb, so the wipe, didn't affect me, for those of you that need everything, I'm not sure how you would restore all of your email to your bb.
