How do you do that on GSM carriers?

On my Cingular branded 8800 I get 1-2 bars at my house..on my newer AT&T branded 8800 I get 3-4 bars..

On the Cingular branded 8800, I will constantly go to SOS/Insert Sim Card.. now I dont know if it's because of the beta 4.5 OS I have on it or not.. but I only started using it because I put 4.5 on it and can't seem to keep this thing from dropping signal completely..

This doesn't happen on my AT&T branded 8800 but that could be because it's got the 4.2.1 OS on it and maybe newer so it recognizes more towers..

Is there a way to update the "PRL" or whatever GSM carriers call it to make the device recognize the new towers?

Anyone? On Verizon/Sprint, you can dial *228 then hit 2 to update the PRL so that the device recognizes new towers..

how is this done on GSM carriers?

I'm sure it has something to do with your OS and not needing a PRL update. Besides it's beta for a reason.

Well, if it can be updated on 4.2, why not 4.5?

There's gotta be a way..I doubt just popping the battery out/in allows new towers to be found..
