Hey i just got a BB 8800 about a month ago and ive been messing round with the desktop manager recently trying to install new apps. Ive seen lots of .jad and .jar files that are supposed to be various applications however the desktop manager seems to keep asking for a .axl or .akl (cant remember which) file instead of the format that all the apps that are supposed to be for the 8800 are in. please help!

Welcome to CB! I have an 8800 as well. Personally, the apps that I have downloaded on mine, I've done directly, without using the desktop manager.

A jad or jar file are OTA download and can not be used on DM, the axl files are used on DM.

NO problem that is what we are here for. OTA means over the air you can not do this with out a data plan. If the file says jad it is downloaded to your blackberry using a BB data plan.

so do various apps usually have a mirror app just in the .axl format? or are most designed strictly for OTA

Unfortunately no they don't mirror apps. some of them do and others are strictly OTA
