My service provider (Telus) is in Canada and I travel to the States a lot. Whenever I use the blackberry there, the roaming charges are insane (both for the phone and for web browsing).

I know that changing the SIM card works if you go to Europe, but can anybody suggest anything for Canada/US travel? Is there a way to change the SIM card so that it can prevent the roaming charges and extra fees for web browsing outside my home province?

    Thanks.

Popping an American SIM card in the 8830 will not work since the 8830 operates in the 900 / 1800 Mhz band where as T-Mo and AT&T use 850 / 1900 in the United States. My only idea is to get a US pre-paid phone and use that. Sorry.

Oh I so agree with this. I live in Bermuda and the roaming charges...well let's just say after being in the states for two weeks...my bill was someone's RENT. No joke.

I quickly got a pre paid phone...Izza happier now.

    Peace,
