yeah i have a 2 gig that works just fine some peopl hare alredy using 4- gb cards th 8820 is suposed to be able use cards as big as 32 gb this of cours means th 8800 can use them too
Just bought a 4 gig card and it works fine on my 8820. ATT will tell you that only 2 gig works. But mine works fine.
Thanks for the confirmation, as I only have a 1GB card for now....from what I have read on the net, the 8820 supports SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) 4-32GB
Like everybody else, I wanted the largest memory card possible for my awesome BB 8800 (AT&T). Wanted the 6GB card. Many forums say the 6GB will not work. Poked around and found "a" page on the sandisk site. (I tried to post the URL, but for some stupid reason, this forum will only allow you to post a URL after you have made 10 posts. I say again...Stupid. ). (URL was here). Go to the sandisk site. On the left there is a link that says "not sure what product you need". Click on this. Then click on the "I need more memory for my...bla bla bla..multifunctional mobile phone, etc. Click Next. Then click on mobile phones. Then click on "List of Mobile phones with maximum capacity microSDHC card". Scroll down and you will see Blackberry 8800..and 4GB max. capacity. You will also see that they tested it....it worked, but they won't guarantee it.
FYI, Kingston site also has a nice look-up, but Kingston site says only 2GB will work.
After reading that Sandisk had tested the 8800 with the 4GB card....I purchased today a 4gb Sandisk card. Formatted it using the SD adaptor and the USB stick adaptor in my Windows XP laptop. Windows showed capacity 3.79 GB. I put a bunch of music, pictures, video, etc. on it. Took it out of the laptop and put it in the bberry 8800 running v4.2.1.79 (platform 2.3.0.74). The card works perfectly. The BBerry also reports the correct size of 3.79 GB. FYI...!!
I say again that requiring 10 posts before you can post a URL is stupid, wastes time, etc.
Crackberry moderators take your head out of your Crack.
They state up to 4gb. From experience, it seems most Berrys work with up to 2gig no problem...but once it hits 4gb the issues occassionally arise. Even with the recent OS there is sometimes problems. I'm still looking for a 100% infallible rule that explains why the cards don't always work. And I know it's not always the card, as I'll swap it into another device and it will work:
Case in point...have a 4GB card...put in an 8800...it wont work. Yet a 2GB in that same 8800 works fine. OS is up to date. Then put the same 4GB card into a Curve and it works fine.
WilhelmBerry - RE: the 10 post count. Trust me, I WISH that it was not necessary but it is to keep the spam count at a minimum. If we let URLs get posted prior to that we'd get 20X the spam we currently do. We're quite fast to wipe spam out, and the fact the URLs don't actually get through helps a lot in deterring the spammers - there's easier places for them to go. So lay off the mods! I set that rule.
I had a 2Gb Kingston card which Kingston states works fine with my 8800. It locked the trackball when it first booted up after a battery pull. If you held the "end" key while booting, it would work. Strange!
I took that card back and got a Crucial 2GB card and it works fine and doesnt lock my trackball like the Kingston did...
This is an older post but I thought I would update it since this topic will likely grow with the times...
I have a 8800 running an 8GB Micro SD card with no problems although I am running app version 4.5.0.81(108) so I imagine that most people with problems are going to be a result of the appversion they are running (try to get the latest available for your model and you should experience less problems).
I have 2 8800's that are running 4 GB SDHC cards with no issues. Both cards are the SanDisk brand from Walmart. I have also upgraded the device software to 4.5 and now can listen to my music with my Stereo Bluetooth headset.
If I put too many things in one folder on my BB's SD card (a 2gb kingston) then it locks up. Say if I have more than 50 or so pictures in a single folder it freezes, and I have to pop the SD card out and delete a couple. It also freezes with filenames longer than so many characters. Dammit.
