I have a 128 meg card in the BB at the moment

Anyone got any suggestions or links for a bigger one?

I am slightly confused about whether the card is a kind of 'overflow' memeory for the BBs activities or whether things must be specifically loaded onto it

eg - if you accumulated a shedload of messages and emails on the device would htey overflow onto this card?

I have a 2gb sandisk memory card and download my music and pictures on that i have seen a couple of posts saying that you can put a 4gb memory card in and other people saying it may have issues

Go for a 2gb sandisk.......It works like a charm....4gb sometimes has issues....Slows down the handheld....

No. The Media Card is setup for just that... Media. You can load pictures, ringtones, music and videos. Applications and data do not go to the Media card. I've only found one app that will load data to the media card and that was MobiPocket ver 6.0 beta.

The "issues" that you mention regarding the 4GB cards are only
speed related, or are there any data corruption issues as well ?

To my knowledge, the 88xx series only handles up to 2GB, period.
