    Findings Summary

The following findings have been collecting from the posts in this thread and on this forum. Positive findings are marked in blue, negative findings are marked in red. Neutral or unconfirmed findings in gray.

    • Browser security bug fixed. KB19552
    • High initial boot memory. bubbawat
    • Call timer is back. codemaker
    • Device operation is smooth and responsive. codemaker

    • BBM5 groups were not restored. codemaker
Restoring from a remote backup properly restored the groups.
    • Open BBM5 conversations lost. codemaker
    • Random (?) "Device media processor is busy." error, causes no further audio notifications or music playback. codemaker BB KB14943 BB KB14028 macduff98 (blackberry support forums) codemaker
Playback is restored after a battery pull. Starting voice dialing, waiting for it to initialize then exiting it also restores media playback.

    • Only the default calendar was restored correctly. codemaker
    • Tasks were restored with incorrect due times. codemaker
    • Power off icon cannot be hidden. codemaker
This may be an isolated incident. It has been sporadically reported for previous releases and has only affected some users.
    • Memory leak. bubbawat

Note: If any RIM engineers reading this are interested, I can also attempt to collect instructions on reproducing these issues.

    Initial findings:

Only my default device calendar was properly restored. Tasks were restored with all of due times wrong. BBM5 groups were not restored. A remote restore worked great (although it took a while and slowed the device down while it was restoring everything). Also I can no longer hide my power off icon. I have seen this on and off with other releases, other people running the same versions did not experience this problem.

FYI, I have not tested for the device media processor busy bug yet. I will test that some time this weekend.

I also lost all open BBM5 conversations.

I received the e-mail as well and download it. Everything seems fine except my browser has not appeared yet. This did happen once before when I upgraded my OS, so it should appear in a bit.

    moving from .135 to .175

file free after reboot - over 17meg. This is with the full load without bb maps and including VAD. Previously, without VAD, the best I could get was 14 meg. There is no google maps or other substantial third party apps.

Memory drain, so far, seems to be the same quick drain as .135. I will be watching over the next few days.

No other noticed differences yet. Will be checking media player capabilities with various attachments over the weekend.

I just encountered the 'device media processor busy' bug.

Other observations: The call timer is still present in this version, operation is fairly smooth and the device is responsive. Battery life seems unchanged. Memory usage seems to be mostly unchanged from .135. Though, since I installed BBM5 I have started having memory problems again (with both .135 and .175).

I have never really experienced the chirping noise on calls so I cannot test for that.

I want to say yes but...

I downloaded 4.5.0.175 and unpacked it fine,

Deleted the XML Vendor file and followed up to Loader through:
local disk, program files, common files, RIM, AppLoader, etc.:

Once Loader 'loaded' all that came up was the applications that I have/ could download to my phone...There was no regular options to load the new OS

(mind you I did not use JL_CMDER this time, I did use it yesterday but it gave similar results)

If anyone knows how to bypass this bug I'd be grateful.

Or the final judgement would be that this Sprint OS will not work on a Verizon Phone...

In order to get "loader.exe" to recognize the new operating system upgrade, I had to change my BB Desktop Manager to the latest international version. I also had to use the other Sprint 4.5.0.175 image, the one that does not start with "8830m" in its filename (the one not linked to the first post in this thread).

My chirping noise is gone. I had it in 4.5.0.169 about once every 5 minutes. However, on two separate 30 minute calls, I did not get one chirp.

Someone on the BlackBerry Community Support forums may have found a workaround for the "Device Media processor busy" error. Instead of doing a battery pull, try starting then exiting voice dialing. I have updated the findings with this information. I am going to try and verify this today.

Maybe that's why I've never gotten that error. I never used voice dialing with the stock ROM and have removed it from every hybrid that I've run.
