Never had a "squeak" on my Sprint 8830. Running the hybrid now and will try the new OS once it's rolled into the 5.0 hybrid any day now. Hoping for less memory leak with the new OS.

I loaded this on my phone this evening and played around with it. I have updated the findings summary with my findings.

High memory compared to? Any numbers? The "Device media processor is busy" bug sounds like a bad one. Losing audio notifications for incoming calls would be a deal-breaker.

High memory compared to 4.5.0.135. The source of those findings is linked.

I haven't experienced the loss of sound with 169 yet. I definitely had it with 160 and the 160/5.0 hybrid. I have had the chirp a couple times after talking for > 5 min (approx).

Memory is higher than 138 for me, by 5-7MB. Its very similar to what I had with 160. Memory leak seems to be pretty good on 169 as well.

Figure out the chirp, and we may be good to go.

Fyi, I did brick my phone before installing 169. Seems to be a much cleaner install than my 160 install.

Also, screen delay is much better than my experience with 138 and 160.

If this still has the media processor problems, it is no better than the .160/5.0 hybrid.

I just tried this just because.

I havent gotten any media processor errors out of this one,
and I have noticed a little more memory free.
This is compared to .160/5.0 hybrid.

This must be the beginning of the end of the 8830. A new OS and only 9 posts. Wow. I'll be installing the new OS today. If anything good or bad happens, I'll post.

Updated yesterday, slightly more memory than with .160 and it doesn't seem to leak down as fast. Maybe just my phone usage for the last day, but the battery seems to be holding charge better/more efficient. Not a whole lot different other than that, good to see the new OS out, I thought the 8830 was going to be done development wise. I debate getting a tour every day, but really like my 8830. I'm holding out for now.

I'm running the .169 hybrid now. So far, so good. No chirps ever and a bit more memory than the .160 hybrid. No media errors either.

For anyone considering the Tour, don't. They really are junk. The keyboards are worse than the 8830 but the biggest problem is the trackball. Major hardware problems there.

Has anyone tried using the radio from 138 to see if the squeaking goes away? I didnt have any issues with squeak on 160 until I got to Virginia. It only happened there. Im preparing to install 169 now. Wish me luck lol

Running the .169 Hybrid since it was posted. Only strange issue I'm having is when I answer a call, it sometimes (40% of the time) goes to the menu screen.

Ive dropped a few calls since the install but thats probably "the network", gotta love VZW! My sounds stop working but I don't get an error & I didn't get one with 160 either, they just stop. Also, my browser is slower. I ran the 160 hybrid before so maybe that's why it was faster. The memory leakdown is ALOT better!! Been up 12 hours and Ive only lost 2.2MB. With 160 and the same apps it was dropping alot faster!!!

    Edited for issues found

You will only get an error when your sound stops working if you attempt to play a media file. Thanks for posting your findings.

    Oh, ok.

Also, my battery life seems to be less. I used to go 2 days on 1 charge and now I barely make it past 1 day. Ill just charge it every night, no big deal.

.169 is actually an officially released OS an can be downloaded from blackberry.com. Then, the java folder with the hybrid files is posted a couple times, i.e. by skunkd, 312, and a few others. See the "8830 Hybrid OS .160 + os5.0 (BETA)", I believe it was #249 in there has skunkd's latest version from just a few days ago. Replace the original java folder contents from .169 with those in the folder from skunkd (or whomever's you download), and install. Good Luck!
