I tried to do the upgrade to 4.5 on my verizon blackberry and it got hung up on installing the Java part. After pulling the unit, the red light flashes twice every second or two and it will do nothing else. Pulling the battery and running it off of only usb does nothing different.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

This has happened to me once, reason being the USB cable got unplugged accidentally and it bricked my BB. Couldn't find a fix for this. You could give Jl_cmder a try but don't get your hopes up... Sorry dude.

Looks like it was a windows 7 thing... I think I've found a fix.

Shouldn't mess with a work owned BB........ 4.5 isn't even recommended for the 8830 anyway......

Good idea test a beta os install on a beta PC operating system with a phone that isn't yours.

Despite my comment above this post that is just meant to make you laugh a little I highly recommend 4.5 on the 8830. Verizon and Sprint seem to be the only ones that don't recommend the 4.5 OS for the 8830.

I forgot to throw them in the mix too but since verizon owns them now they will probably follow suit with whatever verizon corporate does in regards to 4.5 on these phones...

can I update the 8830 to 4.5 through verizon. It lloks like if I tell there system I want to upgrade an 8130 I can download the software.

Are there negative effects to the phones performance?

Do not upgrade your phone with the 8130 OS, you will brick your Berry. If you do a Google search you can find the OS for an 8830. I have 4.5.0.101 installed and it runs fine.
