I want to play MP3s on my 8830 thru the AUX jack in my car stereo. Anybody have any experience with this? I see that you need a certain adapter just to play headphones....will the same one work to hook up w/ my AUX jack? Hit me up, CrackBerry gurus!

Let us know how it goes, a review would be great. To be honest, I don't think we have many users that 'use this feature', thus the lack of responses...

It will absolutely work.....all you need is the 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter to hook it to your AUX jack

If you do a search on "headphones" here at the CrackBerry site, you'll find that there are certain headphones and adapters that you can buy to get stereo output... I'll be sure and let everyone know how it works out in the car.

Fry's sells an adapter with a microphone. I connect this to a cassette adapter (it can be connected to any adapter which hooks up to your car stereo) I used to use it with my IPod. When a call comes in you can take the call by using the microphone, in essence the adapter creates a handsfree device that goes through your car stereo.

The unfortunate part is the button on the device is a mute button and will not act as a voice activation button. You can still use your bluetooth for VA but the bluetooth microphone is inop while the adapter is connected.

    Good luck!

Ah; that's reassuring to hear! Only now I wish I paid for faster shipping on my adapter w/ built-in mic or knew I could find one at Fry's!!

Well, it plays in stereo thru the AUX jack in my car, but will periodically play through the handset for a moment, making it impossible to enjoy listening to...
The connection seems fine...I wonder if it is my berry or the adapter?

Sounds like the adapter you're using is mono, not stereo.

Not to hijack, but any ideas on how to connect without a tape player and without an aux port? I know I can get the aux port installed, but it will probably cost quite a bit. I'll be driving a F150 next year and I've been trying to figure out how this will work.

I tried 3 different adapters before I found one that worked perfectly. The first 3 either didn't work at all, played only one side of stereo, or seemed like they had a loose connection and would switch between speaker and headphones. I finally found this Seido Adapter. It works great with everything.

That one does not have a mic. They have another version with a mic, but I have not tried it. Others say it works.

I have the version with mic and it's terrible! I used it for under one day and it started to fall apart. A nightmare with customer service right now.

If you disconnect the adapter from your BB while the music is playing through the stereo does it switch and output sound from your BB without stopping? If so that sounds like a loose connection between the BB headphone jack and the adapter.

It acts like a bad connection problem...except it'll be playing (in stereo) thru the car speakers for a time and then switch to the BB even when sitting absolutely still. Is it a bad connection even if there is NO movement to mess said connection up? Oh well. I'm going to try to return it and get the version suggested by EmptyInTheHead. If that doesn't work I'm back to burning CDs.

The problem is not your unit. It seems the 8830 is very picky about the kind of adapter. I just started my own thread for this having tried many different kinds of adapters and cables and found that nothing works. However another thread pointed to a Seido adapter. You'll have to search for "headphones" in this forum to find the thread with the link as I just joined the forum and it won't let me post a URL until I have posted 10 times!

I see that that adapter has the three stripes on it like the headphones that came with my 8830. Sigh I already bought two 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm adapters and now have to buy a third.
