This is just the 8830 right? Not WE.. Curve?? It's my bosses phone, just trying to determine the exact model - also trying to determine whats the max memory it can hold (via Micro SD) chips.
There's only one 8830 model. It's the World Edition, or WE. It is not a Curve. World Edition means it has the ability to use European (not North American) GSM frequencies. The max size SD card it can hold is determined by the OS version installed. If you are running OS 4.5, which is the latest and last issued for the 8830, it can handle up to an 8 GB card. If your OS is 4.5.0.81 or greater, the card size goes up to 16 GB. The current OS is 4.5.0.175. Depending on how old your device is, it may still have OS 4.2.2.176 or OS 4.2.2.196.
So you did. What an odd moment of temporary partial blindness. Nonetheless, everything I stated is correct. OS 4.2.2.196 generally will support up to a 4GB card. Verizon's release of 4.2.2.196 supported up to 8GB cards.
Options / Status the third line will tell you the OS. It will be something like 4.2.2.196 or 4.5.0.175. There was nothing between 4.2.x.x and 4.5.x.x for the 8830, and 4.5.x.x is the latest available. The 8830 does not have sufficient memory to run OS 5 or later.
No. I'm sorry, I pointed you to the wrong menu. You can't see the OS version in Options / Status. I should have pointed you to Options / About.
Here's another way to find the OS version. Press the Alt key, and while holding it down, press the right shift key, and while holding both keys down, press the H key. The line labeled App Version is your OS version. On my 8830, it's 4.5.0.160 (253). The number in () doesn't matter. The version is OS 4.5.
