8820 shuts down sometimes in holster. why?
- Greetings all.
My new 8820 is great, awesome, except for one issue I cannot figure out. Twice in the past almost two weeks I've had it, it seems to have "shut down" without my expecting it. Both times it was "holstered". Once was overnight and today it was not holstered very long at all before I checked it and it was again shut down.
I know there are "power off" setting and I have made sure they are set to never turn off. The phone is not simply "sleeping". In these instances, it will not respond to any buttons, even the main power button on top. The only way I can seem to recover it is by re-seating the battery.
Besides this happening twice in two weeks, the phone seems fine, is usually on 24 x 7. I know the magnet in the holster sends it to sleep, and at nights have been leaving the strap off the phone. Both times this happened, however, the strap on the holster was on.
Anyone have any ideas?

- I have not touched ANY of my Blackberry's buttons after it was holstered and on two occasions, it has simply turned itself off. When I walked away 5 minutes after holstering it, it was still flashing green on the LED. Then, it was off and none of my controls would work and the only way I was able to get it to respond was to reseat my battery. Same symptoms, different model, same carrier.10-06-07 11:05 PMLike 0

- I have the same problem.
Sometimes( depending how long the phone is in the holster) the phone will turn itslef off. I wont be getting any calls or messages, and when I take it out of the holster it will turn itself back on automatically ( I will get the ATT logo on, as if it is turning itself on), then the voicemails will show up. I dont know what to do....I miss a lot of calls this way.10-18-07 08:14 PMLike 0 -
- Same problem different model (8100 Pearl). Could it be a hardware issue? if so how can it be resolved? I am dying without my trusted pearl.05-06-08 06:44 AMLike 0
- It seems Naviwilliams has been the only moderater to reply, but hasn't come back with anything solid. Are there any moderaters with and answer??? Or least some insite. It appears to be being experienced by a few people... Or does anyone have a Blackberry Guru that can answer this question??? it's getting quite frustrating...05-08-08 09:00 AMLike 0
- i got it fixed for my bb 8800. occasionally i dropped my bb on sofa slightly, and found it came to a restart. yes, a slight drop, should not cause a system restart. i thought there was a hardware issue, but i was not sure what it was. i got no tools to have a thorough check, but what i could do at the moment was to open the battery cover and examine the battery, because a poor connection between battery and the contact might be the very reason. the battery could still be moved although it was confined in the cabin. and when i moved the battery, the system restarted again, every time i did it.
i put something between the battery and the cabin sidewall to make it fixed firmly in the cabin. from then on, my bb did not die in the hoslter or restart any more.
maybe this is not the reason for your bb, but you can have a try! hope this helpful!05-22-08 09:38 PMLike 0 - I tried Kair G's solution and it has worked. Every time i would gently drop or put down my BB it would reboot. I puled off the back cover and noticed that indeed the battery was loose.
I put a small piece of paper between the battery and the TOP wall of the battery case (the + and - are on the bottom) and this has solved my issue as the batter is more snug.
Hey its not an ideal solution but it beats trying to get it replaced and then resetting the device up.06-10-08 08:20 AMLike 0
