I'd hate to think RIM spent all this time developing the new blackberry and it doesn't even do 3g??? What is my incentive to upgrade? I would think it'd at least have the capability, and maybe an option to turn it off/on (3g slurps down the battery life quicker).

EDGE is the best it will have. Other versions may have WiFi. The incentive to upgrade really depends on if you like the new form factor of the device, the expandable memory, the trackball, and GPS.

3g is not that big of a deal, I used the Samsung Blackjack for about a week. Up-loading web-pages was no faster than on my Pearl and there actually were a few sites I could not access on the Blackjack that I could on the Pearl.

I think using 3G on the device itself won't be that noticeable, but when you go to tether, you should see a huge difference.

cdma version wil be best. 1xev baby..edge does not have a chance

I have heard that 3G from Cingular is faster than EVDO.
